Head out for a discovery-packed day and visit the archaeological sites of Ek Balam and Chichen Itza, before enjoying a dip in a Cenote!
A transfer will pick you up very early in the morning at your Cancún hotel or at one of the meet-up points. You'll drive to the archaeological site of Ek Balam, so you can tour it as soon as it opens (arriving around 8am). Excavations at this site began some twenty years ago and are still ongoing. It's one of the few sites on the peninsula where you can still climb one of the pyramids and enjoy the view of the Mexican rainforest.
You'll then set off (about 1 hour drive) to the legendary archaeological site of Chichen Itza. A listed UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was one of the most important religious centres in the Yucatán. During your guided tour, you'll be able to admire the El Castillo pyramid, the temple of the warriors and El Caracol, the city's circular astronomical observatory.
After a morning's sightseeing, you'll dig into a Mexican buffet lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, you'll be driven to the Samaal Cenote for a relaxing break (about 1hr free time). The Cenotes are natural sinkholes, created by the erosion of limestone, and partially filled with fresh water. These natural pools are a must when visiting the Yucatán.
You'll then be driven back to your hotel or meet-up point, depending on the option chosen (you'll arrive back around 6pm).
