Glendalough, or the Valley of Two Lakes, is one of Ireland's most important monastic settlement sites. For 500 years, this valley was one of Ireland's great ecclesiastical foundations before being burned and pillaged by the Danes and then by the Normans in 1214.

Over the centuries the Glendalough valley deteriorated and the monastery became completely deserted. It had to wait until 1878 for restoration work to begin. Nowadays, the valley is largely wooded and full of sun.

You will spend the morning exploring the valley and the Glendalough monastery that dates back to the 6th century. Your guide will tell you all about the valley's incredible history while visiting the monasterial ruins and the round tower. Enjoy the splendid landscape with a stroll around the famous lakes.

On the way to Kilkenny, you will have a stunning view of the Wicklow Mountains National Park. When you arrive you will discover the costumes and traditions of this medieval town as well as the Black Abbey of Kilkenny and the famous 6th century castle.

Learn everything there is to know about the history and the construction of Glendalough since its creation in the 6th century.
