Visit Soweto Township and learn more about the period of Apartheid during this half-day tour!
After being picked up from your hotel or Johannesburg centre, you'll head to this huge township that was created due to colonisation. Your guide will share tons of facts about this area that was affected by Apartheid (in English). You'll see a bustling neighbourhood and the former residences of two Nobel Peace Prize winners from South Africa.
You'll learn about a number of projects that seek to promote the development of the Soweto community and will make a stop at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the largest in Africa. The tour also includes a visit to the Regina Mundi Cathedral, the largest Catholic church in South Africa, and the Hector Pieterson Memorial, erected in homage to the students killed during the 1976 riots. Your guide will also take you to Freedom Square, a historic square where the South African opposition was held.
