Retrace the footsteps of Gandhi through this guided tour of Johannesburg!
After being picked up from your hotel, you'll set off to discover the places that influenced Gandhi's life when he lived in South Africa. He arrived here in 1893 to work as a civil defence attorney for the local Indian community and lived in Johannesburg for nearly 20 years! He quickly became a leading figure in the fight against segregation.
Your guide will tell you all about his incredible life (in English, French or German). You'll visit the Satyagraha Guest House, the house where Gandhi lived with his architect friend Kallenbach. It was here that he would develop his philosophy of passive resistance (Satyagraha in Sanskrit), which he would employ to lead India to independence. You'll also visit the Museum Africa, the Indian Crematorium, the Hamid Mosque, Gandhi Square and the Troyville House. This historical tour will help you better understand the philosophy and fight led by this pioneer of civil disobedience!
