Description

Explore one of the most visited historic regions of France on this tour of the 1944 Normandy landing sites. From the Caen Memorial to the legendary Normandy beaches, this tour takes in key historic sites and brings the past to life.

Between June and August 1944, this region was the stage of the Battle of Normandy, which enabled the Allied forces to open a second front against German soldiers in Europe.

During this activity you will find out more about the events that changed the course of these decisive conflicts.

For this trip to the Normandy landing beaches, you will be driven from Paris to Caen by coach. On arrival you will visit the Caen Memorial, a museum based on the theme of peace, featuring a moving audio commentary and film screenings.

Have lunch at the Memorial before the excursion continues to the Normandy landing beaches. The coach will stop at the Pointe du Hoc, which was the scene of one of the major offensives of 6th June 1944.

The next stop will be St Laurent Cemetery overlooking Omaha Beach, the site of where the Allied forces suffered their greatest losses. Here you'll visit the "Garden of the Missing", where the names of 1,577 missing soldiers are inscribed on the immense "Walls of the Missing", and see the row of ten stone steles which mark the final resting place of 9,386 American soldiers.

Finally, you will stop at Arromanches, the artificial "Mulberry" harbour built by the Allies, before visiting the Canadian Memorial at Juno Beach.

At the end of the day, the bus will take you back to Paris.
