Fly over the Piton de la Fournaise in a helicopter!

The Piton de le Fournaise is the only French volcano still active today. It is also one of the most active in Europe and a site not to be missed during a stay on Reunion Island!

This flyover tour is exclusively operated from Saint Pierre heliport, which you will either drive to in your own vehicle or, if you choose the option, be transported to from your hotel and back. After meeting the crew and receiving a safety briefing, you'll board the helicopter and depart for a 25-minute flight.

Begin your island flyover tour with the Rivière des Remparts , which was formed more than 300,000 years ago after the collapse of an ancient caldera. Surrounded by green shores, it is one of the longest on the island. Before arriving at the volcano, you'll admire the Plaine des Sables (sandplain), a lava desert and lunar landscape of volcanic rock and sand, devoid of any vegetation.

You'll then enjoy an aerial view of the Piton de la Fournaise, its craters, and its lava flows. Gaze in awe at the magic of the volcano, one of the emblems of Reunion Island.

After this truly exceptional experience, you'll return to Pierrefonds airport.

- A transfer organised our provider from your accommodation. Please note that the transfers are only covered for hotels located in the South of Reunion Island (from Grand Bois to Etang Salé)! 

Good to know

  • Availability: every day (except in exceptional circumstances)
  • Time: the exact time of the flight will be confirmed to you the day before to ensure you benefit from the best possible weather conditions
  • Departs from: Saint-Pierre Heliport, or your hotel if you choose the option with transfers (valid only for hotels located in the south of the island, from Grand Bois to Etang Salé)
  • Duration: 25 minutes (indicated flight times may be modified according to weather conditions)
  • To participate in this activity, please show your voucher to the provider on site
  • You will need to arrive 30 minutes before your flight time in order to proceed with boarding
  • The helicopter used during this activity was manufactured in France by Airbus. The interior is spacious and offers panoramic views, so you can fully enjoy the landscapes. The cabin has a maximum capacity of 6 passengersand 1 pilot
  • It is very difficult to anticipate the weather conditions on Reunion Island. A weather review is therefore undertaken on site, 15 minutes before the planned take-off time
  • This activity may be modified or cancelled in the event of poor weather conditions. An alternative date, a different route, or a refund will be offered in this case
  • Children under 2 years of age cannot participate
  • Passengers must have identification for check-in
  • Passengers will be seated according to their build: the 2 smallest and lightest will be placed at the front, while the other 4 will be placed at the back.The seats at the back will be elevated so that all passengers can enjoy a panoramic view.
    Seating is allocated fairly, favouring at least one person from each group as far as possible and within the limits of applicable regulations
  • For technical and organisational reasons, we strongly advise informing the provider in advance if one of the passengers is a person of reduced mobility (in a wheelchair, walking with a stick or crutches) or of heavy build (over 100 kg)
  • For safety, security, and comfort reasons, only sunglasses, cameras, and mobile phones in aeroplane mode are allowed on board. Bags and cases must remain on the ground, as must selfie sticks and tablets
  • We recommend wearing dark clothing to minimise reflections when taking pictures on board
