Description

Set out to explore the castle and ramparts of the city of Carcassonne, one of the largest restoration projects in Europe!

During this visit to the fortified medieval city, you can admire the count's castle, the fortifications and the fifty-two or so towers currently managed by the French Centre des Monuments Nationaux and, since 1997, a classified UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Armed with your written guide (translated into 12 languages), you'll begin your self-guided tour of the medieval city by exploring the castle. You'll continue your journey towards the covered way and the hoardings, and wooden galleries that were used when defending the castle from enemy attacks.

You'll finish your visit by the Gallo-Roman North rampart of the medieval city which has fantastic views of the Montagne Noire, the Aude plain and the Tréseau tower, and exit the castle through the Narbonnaise gate.

Explore this medieval city classified and Unesco World Heritage Site and go straight back to the Middle Ages!
