Explore the Château de Rambouillet and its gardens, a former royal residence and now a presidential residence!

Following in the footsteps of France's leaders and explore the Château de Rambouillet, which is nestled in the heart of the Rambouillet forest. You can tour the castle on your own and learn about its history, starting from when it was built. The Château de Rambouillet has a rich historical past and numerous French leaders have stayed there: Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, Napoleon I and also presidents of the Republic including Charles de Gaulle.

After the visit to the castle of Rambouillet, you'll go to the Laiterie de la Reine (Queen's dairy). You can also visit the Chaumière aux coquillages (shell house). Not to forget a walk through the formal gardens with their canals and water features. You can also hire a boat, peddle buggy, bike or electric buggy for an even more fun tour.

  • Availability: every day except Tuesdays and public holidays (except under exceptional circumstances)
  • Times: from 10 am to 5pm/6pm* (given as an indication, please visit the site's website to double-check opening times)
  • Duration: self-guided tour, no time limit
  • Last entry: 30mins before closing times (midday and evening)
  • You'll be asked to select a preffered date when making your reservation. Please note, however, that you can visit on a date of your choice (latest date for use: 31 December 2023)
  • Your ticket gives you access to the Laiterie de la Reine (Queen's Dairy) 1 hour after the time indicated on your ticket, this slot will be reserved for you
  •  
  • Prams and pushchairs aren't allowed in the castle
  • Large bags and suitcases aren't allowed, there are no left luggage lockers
  • Visitors with disabilities and their companions, visitors under 18 years old and residents of the European Union under 26 years old may enter free of charge on presentation of valid ID (other free entry visitors will be verified on-site)
    IMPORTANT: any visitor requesting free admission will have to go to the reception desk where staff will check their supporting documents
  • Admission to the castle is free on the 1st Sunday of the month (from 1st February to 31st May)
  • The Château de Rambouillet will be closed from 31st August to 9th September and from 8th - 10th November
  • The exhibition "Rambouillet 1950" is surcharged at 2€, to be payed on spot
  • Please note that tickets issued can't be cancelled, exchanged or refunded

*From 1st October to 29th March, from 10 am to 12pm / 1.30pm to 5pm. From 30 March to 30 September : 10 am to 12pm / 1.30pm to 6pm
