Set off to discover Mount Vernon! Visit the home of George Washington and take an optional cruise back to Washington DC!

Hop on your bike at Alexandria and pedal along the Mount Vernon Trail, a pleasant wooded track which snakes along the River Potomac.

After roughly an hour of cycling, you will arrive at the residence of George Washington, the first President of the United States. Spend the day exploring the property and its gardens at your own pace and learn more about the history of this illustrious historical figure.

For the return  trip (leaving at 1:30pm), you can choose between boarding a boat for a commentated cruise back to Alexandria Old Town, or returning to Alexandria by bike.

  • Seasonal activity: April to October only
  • Availability: every day (except in exceptional cases)
  • Times: we advise you to collect your bikes between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m.
  • Departure point: Old Town Alexandria
     
  • Please note: this activity leaves from Old Town Alexandria, which is located 20 minutes from the centre of Washington by car, or 45 minutes by subway (Blue line).
  • This is not a guided tour
  • Boarding at Mount Vernon for the cruise is at 4pm
  • The journey from Old Town Alexandria to Mount Vernon following the Mount Vernon Trail covers around 16 km (10 miles). The round trip by bike covers 32 km (20 miles)
  • Bike equipments for children and babies (half tandem, baby seat) are available to rent on-site. However, we do not recommend this tour for children under 5 years old
  • The tour may be cancelled if the weather conditions are very bad. In this case, the service provider will propose an alternative date or a full refund
  • Wearing the helmet is obligatory for participants under the age of 18 years
